Altivera Vision is led by Dr. Jeffrey J. Machat, MD, FRCSC, DABO, a pioneer in LASIK and one of the field’s earliest innovators. Since 1991, he has performed 108,000+ procedures, trained 3,000+ surgeons across 24 countries, and authored two LASIK textbooks.
Beyond clinical leadership, Dr. Machat has scaled multi-site vision care businesses with operator discipline. He founded TLC Laser Eye Centers in 1993 and grew the company through building and acquiring 83 clinics, culminating in an IPO in 1996 on the TSX and Nasdaq. He later served as Chief Medical Officer and strategic advisor to Optical Express, supporting expansion from 11 to 55 clinics and developing clinical policies, training systems, and patient advocacy and complication management programs. Across additional executive medical leadership roles, he has provided clinical oversight for hundreds of surgeons and optometrists, shaping clinical and marketing strategy, advising on operational systems, and managing risk at scale. Dr. Machat is board certified by the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada and the American Board of Ophthalmology, holds multiple U.S. medical licenses, and currently serves as LASIK Surgeon and Medical Director with LASIK Vision Institute in Memphis, TN and Charlotte, NC.
